Happy, Hoppy Jeweled Eggs!

Happy Hoppy Easter, everyone! How cute is that title page drawing by Penelope?

We hope everyone is having a restful spring break and enjoying the holidays. At Leaders we like to celebrate our holidays as naturally as possible!

Are you trying to decorate a child-friendly bunny or egg themed table? The best inspiration can come from the garden, of course! Find egg-shaped rocks and paint them as you would Easter eggs. Placing them in a “nest” of dried leaves, acorns, and twigs can create a beautiful, natural centerpiece. Use a mix of vintage patterned tablecloths and cloth napkins!

For little nibbles, why not place carrots, stems and all, in a glass vase with some herby yogurt dip?

An alternative to buying individual, prepackaged chocolates each year would be to use an antique chocolate mold to make your own chocolate bunny! Children can experiment making their own treats with fair-trade white, milk, and dark chocolates. This fun and delicious activity also adds that extra personal touch to each creation. Antique chocolate molds are perfectly safe to use and can be found on sites like eBay. They are wonderful as table décor and can be used again and again.

Instead of blindingly bright, artificially colored Easter eggs, why not go the natural route there too*? There are now so many blogs and videos on how to make your own natural dye with the scraps in your kitchen. We like this post by Martha Stewart, which is abridged above.

These naturally dyed eggs are such a delight to look at. As an added bonus, they also conserve a lot of kitchen waste, making them much friendlier to the environment.

*Not to worry: eggs won’t take on the flavor of the dyes unless their shells are cracked, although there’s nothing wrong with a pickled egg : ).
