The Cozy Season
As the days get colder and darker in New York, our after-school becomes collectively more bundled up and cozy.
Winter, or what I call “cozy season”, is the perfect time to wear comfy layers, sip hot beverages, and cuddle up with a good book!
Here are our top tips for making the most out of cozy season:
1.) Assemble a s’mores kit!
A Make Your Own S’mores Kit, complete with a flowerpot campfire!
Traditionally, s’mores are created with graham crackers, marshmallows, and chocolate bars. The marshmallows are toasted (with adult supervision) over a fire, which in turn melts the chocolate when sandwiched between the crackers. It all becomes a sweet, gooey, and nostalgic treat for everyone!
I personally love to substitute fresh raspberries in place of the chocolate. Jewel-like raspberries are sweet by themselves and add a welcome brightness between the soft marshmallows and graham crackers.
Try it! You might become a fan of raspberry s’mores.
2.) Make peppermint hot cocoa!
Our kiddos created a how-to booklet for making peppermint hot cocoa during the holiday break. Here is a snapshot of their delicious recipe:
We love the idea of using a peppermint stick as a stirrer for your cocoa.
The candy cane imparts a cool, minty flavor that is evocative of winter!
Remember to be careful around hot liquids and to ask an adult for help when needed.
3.) Read some books by the fire.

White Snow, Bright Snow
Brave Irene
Even if you don’t have a fireplace, it’s still possible to read these by a crackling fire.
Stay cozy!
